Ground Water
Waste Management treats the protection of groundwater and surface water quality at its West Carleton Waste Management facility as a top priority. Each day we monitor both groundwater and surface water to ensure all water quality standards are met and exceeded by our treatment facilities.
We work closely with industry experts to ensure our technology and our monitoring mechanisms are the best-in-class solutions, and we report to the public in a formal way through the publication of an annual report we submit to the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.
Groundwater monitoring wells are used to enhance environmental protection at landfills. Waste Management is a world leader in applying stringent standards, policies, and procedures to ensure that a high level of consistency and quality is built into each monitoring location. Samples are collected routinely, and analyzed by qualified independent laboratories. The lab results are evaluated and then sent to the Ministry of the Environment for their further review. This process allows potential environmental concerns to be identified early, and aggressively evaluated and corrected (when necessary) in accordance with regulations and sound scientific approaches.
Our efforts have included the development of leachate containment systems and the establishment of surface and groundwater monitoring programs that are appropriate for the site.
